Subject: PIANO
TRIOS 1 & 4
Message:
Dear Friends,
I bought last week Piano Trios 1 & 4 (CPO/Trio Opus 8). This
was my 1st. experience in Raff´s Chamber Music. I enjoyed
very much listening this works. But, I think the 4th. is
better than the 1st. I agree with John Boyer about the 1st.
was composed in "automatic pilot", but in my NOT
expert opinion, this work is not bad. I´ll try to hear more
chamber music in general. Thanks to Luis de Orueta for recommended
this works last November (e-mail 22/11/02)(¡Gracias!).
Where I can buy the "Sinfonietta"? Are there any
CD avaiable?, and excuse me for my bad english.
Sincerely,
Fernando.
Thanks for anticipate for your information |

Hi Fernando,
I think that the four Piano Trios are all of a consistently
high standard - something one doesn't usually find within
one of Raff's series of compositions in the same genre. FWIW
and on an entirely subjective basis, overall I find the the
1st. more satisfying than the 4th. - maybe because I've only
got to know it since the CD was released, wheras I've known
the other three for years. The 4th. certainly does have the
most convincing finale of all four.
The only recording of the Sinfonietta currently available
is from Tudor - coupled with the 11th. Symphony - full details
at www.raff.org/cd..htm. Tudor CDs are hard to find - jpc
(www.jpc.de) usually stock them but the postage rates are
high. It is a pretty good performance, though.
Best wishes... |
