Subject: A Raff piano score resource

Message:

I recently learned of the Bagaduce Music Lending Library (www.bagaducemusic.org), which is located in Blue Hill, ME. They are a treasuretrove of neglected composers' scores, including Raff. For a nominal fee, they'll send you any scores you request which you're allowed to keep for 2 months and then return. They have many otherwise unavailable piano scores, among which were piano duet arrangements of the Im Walde and Lenore symphonies, scores I thought I'd never be able to find.

Funny how an out-of-the-way place can have such a fine collection. In Northampton Massachusetts (the site of Rachmaninoff's American debut) ther are two good sources of Raff scores. The Werner Josten Music Library at Smith College has piano duet scores for the 5th and I believe the 3rd symphonies, while the Forbes Library (which is the city library) has all 5 violin sonatas and full scores of the 3rd, 5th, and 8th symphonies. Go figure.
