Subject: RAFF MUSIC IN ORIGINAL FILM SOUNDTRACK
Message:
Dear Friends,
I hope somebody can answer to me this question:
Is true that in the James Cameron´s Film "Titanic" (1997), the boat´s small orchestra play one Raff chamber theme?. If is affirmative: What?
I try to read the end titles, but I can´t find it.
Perhaps I dreamed, or is an "urban legend".
Thanks for anticipate,
Fernando. |

It's some time since I saw the film but I WOULD have recognised any Raff, I'm sure. I don't recall any Raff in the film.
The band on the ship (a Piano Quintet, actually) had the Cavatine op.85 no.3 in its repertoire and there is a CD of I Salonisti playing it and other pieces which the Titanic's musicians played (Decca 458-382).
The urban (naval?) legend is that they played the hymn "Nearer my God to Thee" as the ship sank. They do in the film, I believe, but apparantly it wasn't so. Or so said said my son who, at the time the film came out, seemed to know everything about the Titanic - probably even the names of all the passengers!
