Subject: quartets on cpo?

Message:

According to the Edition Nordstern news page, the Mannheimer Qt. is planning a recorded cycle of the quartets. Had anyone else heard this?

String Quartets Nos.6&7 have alreday been recorded, Eric, and I've just learned that Nos.2&8 are next. For cpo, as you say.

I have no idea about the quality of the interpretations of course, but it's a shame that the first release will include the relatively familiar (and rather bourgouis I always think) No.7, already availabale from Tudor. However its two companions in op.192 should be interesting as in both Raff harks back to the Baroque. Can you believe that he allegedly sketched all three op.192 quartets in a fortnight? Obviously a "vielschreiber" moment!

I'm looking forward very much to No.2 which, according to those who have read the score, outshines No.1 - a piece which I certainly rate above No.7.

Cheers,

Mark
