Subject: Raff's Piano Concerto

Message:

My only real acquaintance with Raff is with the Herrman recording of the Lenore Symphony and a quasi-Vox recording of the Piano Concerto by Michael Ponti. Both works are to my ears very fine, but the Concerto last movement with its dashing [Tarantella(?) or Salterello(?)--which Southern Italian dance is it really???] rhythm as played by Ponti is just simply spectacular and would surely carry away any live audience!!!

Right you are, Herr Ehrenkreutz, but try to convince any conductor on this side of the Atlantic other than Leon Botstein or Neeme Jarvi to program these pieces! It's just impossible.

Dear Herrn Ehrenkreutz:

Did you listen the Antonioli/Foster version of Raff Piano Concerto?
I ever have enjoyed listening this work as all the Raff Symphonies. My favorite movement is the slow sencond, despite its little bit of sentimentality.
Kind regards from Barcelona (Spain)

Fernando.
