Subject: New Raff recordings to look forward to..
Message:
As I was just finishing of this month's update to the site, it struck me what a vast array of new Raff recordings we have to look forward to:
1. Orchestral:
The Symphony No.7, Abends Rhapsody & JS Bach Chaconne arrangement is coming out soon on Tudor. Tudor have also recorded the two Cello Concertos, the Suite for Violin and Orchestra, the "Fée d'Amour" Konzertstück and more stand-alone orchestral works to act as fillers on some of their disks. The four Seasons Symphonies (Nos.8-11) will come out in a box set this Summer from cpo.
2. Opera:
Having recently been broadcast on German radio, the premiere of "Benedetto Marcello" should see a CD release soon.
3. Chamber:
There are three more CDs due from cpo to complete their survey of all the Violin Sonatas and other violin/piano music. Now I learn that Tudor are recording all five Violin Sonatas too. cpo are going to bring out all eight String Quartets, and have already recorded four of them.
4. Vocal:
Hungaroton have just released a CD with 19 songs from the Sanges-Frühling and Maria Stuart collections.
Piano:
AK Coburg have just issed a CD with two of the Piano Suites and one of the JS Bach Cello Suites which Raff arranged for piano. Another three CDs are being recorded to complete their survey of the suites for piano.
That seems to me to be 17 CDs and a couple of 2CD sets at least we can look forward to over the next couple of years.
Looks like I'll have to split the Discography page into two...
Cheers,

Does this mean we'll finally get a complete 9th? Let's hope so. No wonder the finale always sounded too short.

Yes, John, I believe that THIS 9th. will be uncut. I haven't heard a recording of the broadcast, though, so we'd better keep our fingers crossed just to be on the safe side... |
